Grade inflation & test score inflation make current applicants look better

Grades have been inflated since the 1980s by the addition of extra points for honors (4.5 for a A), dual-enrollment (5.0 for an A), and AP (5.0 for an A) courses in high school. The valedictorian now has a 4.5-4.7 GPA, instead of a 4.0 back in the 1960s and 1970s. Also, the SAT scoring has been inflated by about 200 points in the past 40 years. A 1200 on the SAT in the 1970s is the equivalent of a 1400 SAT score today.
